Our client, a renowned civil engineering contractor with over 50 years of excellence in roads, airports, ports, utilities, and bulk earthworks, is an industry leader in remediation, marine, and wastewater projects. Rated R4, B2 , F150. This role presents a unique opportunity to join our client in its early stages of expansion and position yourself for significant career advancement. In this role, you'll oversee projects ranging from $10m to $70m, supported by a Bid Coordinator and junior estimator; you'll focus on the strategic front end of tender processes, ensuring meticulous attention to detail and innovative solutions.

 

The Role:

As a Senior Civil Estimator based in Brisbane City, you'll be pivotal in estimating projects ranging from $10m-$70m. Reporting directly to the State Manager, you'll spearhead first-principle estimating and leverage your expertise in Genesis for accurate and competitive tenders. Supported by a dedicated team, including a Bid Coordinator and junior estimator, you'll focus on the front end of tendering, ensuring meticulous attention to detail and strategic insights.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop accurate cost estimates from first principles for a variety of civil infrastructure projects.
  • Identify and leverage commercial advantages during the tendering process.
  • Collaborate closely with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure comprehensive and competitive tenders.
  • Lead pre-contract negotiations and contribute strategic insights to project planning and execution.
  • Utilize market intelligence and industry trends to inform pricing strategies and enhance tender submissions.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5-10 years of experience in civil estimating, ideally within transport infrastructure and Main Roads projects.
  • Proficiency in Expert Genesis or CCS Candy software preferred.
  • Strong understanding of first principle estimating and the ability to manage complex tender processes.
  • Formal qualifications in civil engineering or related field preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build and maintain key relationships.
  • Understand the technical aspects of the estimate. Ability to communicate with the client and estimating/project team to present tender reviews.
  • Previous experience performing as an engineer on-site would be an advantage but not a prerequisite.

Your Role: As a Civil Project Engineer specialising in Roads & Bridges, reporting to the Project Manager, you will be responsible for the following key areas:

  1. Planning & Programming:
  • Develop detailed project plans and schedules to ensure timely completion of project milestones.
  • Coordinate with the project team to allocate resources efficiently and adjust plans as needed to address any issues or changes.
Review of Contract Documentation:
  • Thoroughly review and understand all contract documents, specifications, and drawings to ensure compliance with project requirements.

Monitoring Costs Against Budget:
  • Track project expenditures and monitor costs against the approved budget.
  • Provide regular financial reports and forecasts to the Project Manager, highlighting any potential cost overruns or savings.
Managing Engineers & Site Staff:
  • Supervise and manage the engineering team and site staff, ensuring all work is carried out to the highest standards.
  • Provide guidance, support, and training to team members as needed.
Supervising Subcontractors:
  • Oversee the performance of subcontractors, ensuring they adhere to project schedules, specifications, and quality standards.
  • Conduct regular site meetings with subcontractors to address issues and ensure smooth project execution.

Your Role:

Senior Estimator | Structural, Mechanical and Piping

As the Estimator, you will develop cost estimates and programs for our major projects team with access to projects across Australia. To excel in this role, you will need a demonstrated background as an Estimator, specialising in Structural, Mechanical, and Piping. Ideally, Having a degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, a related discipline, or equivalent experience in Quantity Surveying would be best. Experience in the Construction, Infrastructure, or Utilities sector and clear and concise communication skills are desirable. Knowledge of Expert Estimation and proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Project, are also preferred.

  • Clear and concise communication skills.
  • Experience with Expert Estimation (preferred).
