QLD Business Development Manager – Civil Construction

Brisbane | Mid-Sized Civil Contractor | Executive-Level Influence

This is a front-end growth role for a civil construction professional who understands the Queensland market and can build relationships that lead to high-quality project opportunities.

Our client is a well-established Brisbane-based civil contractor with a strong reputation across civil infrastructure, land development, subdivisions, earthworks, roadworks, structures and mining infrastructure. With continued growth across Queensland, they are now looking to appoint a commercially minded Business Development Manager to help strengthen client relationships, identify new opportunities and support the next stage of business growth.

This role will suit someone who enjoys being out in the market — building trust with developers, consultants, project owners, government stakeholders and industry partners. You will play a key role in identifying opportunities early, understanding client drivers and positioning the business to secure the right work.

Working closely with the executive, estimating and delivery teams, you will help shape pipeline, tender strategy and future project opportunities across Queensland.

The Role

Reporting to the executive team, your role will focus on identifying, developing and converting new business opportunities across the civil construction market.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Building strong relationships with developers, consultants, civil infrastructure clients, government bodies and industry contacts.
  • Identifying upcoming opportunities across land development, subdivisions, roadworks, bulk earthworks, structures and mining infrastructure.
  • Developing and managing a strong pipeline of qualified project opportunities.
  • Supporting tender strategy, bid/no-bid decisions and client engagement throughout the tender process.
  • Working closely with estimating and delivery teams to ensure opportunities align with business capability, project risk and commercial return.
  • Monitoring market activity, competitor movement and upcoming project pipelines across Queensland.
  • Supporting commercial discussions, client negotiations and project positioning where required.
  • Maintaining accurate CRM, pipeline and business development reporting.
  • Representing the business professionally and strengthening its reputation as a trusted civil contractor.

About You

You will bring proven experience in civil construction, infrastructure, land development or a closely aligned contracting environment. You may already be working in business development, or you may come from a senior civil construction, estimating, pre-contracts, project management or commercial background with strong market relationships.

To be successful, you will ideally have:

  • Strong civil construction industry experience.
  • Established relationships across the Queensland civil, land development or infrastructure market.
  • A proven ability to build relationships and help convert opportunities into secured work.
  • A solid understanding of civil projects, including subdivisions, earthworks, roads, drainage, structures and/or mining infrastructure.
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to understand project risk, margin, delivery capability and client expectations.
  • Confidence dealing with developers, consultants, clients, government stakeholders and internal leadership teams.
  • Strong communication, presentation and negotiation skills.
  • The discipline to manage pipeline, CRM activity and reporting accurately.
  • A collaborative, team-first approach with the drive to help grow a successful business.

Tertiary qualifications in construction management, civil engineering, business or a related field would be viewed favourably, but practical industry experience, market credibility and relationship strength will be highly valued.

What’s on Offer

This is a genuine opportunity to step into a key growth role with direct access to the executive team and real influence over business direction.

You will be joining a respected mid-sized civil contractor with a strong platform, capable delivery teams and the appetite to continue growing across Queensland.

On offer is a competitive senior package, long-term career opportunity and the chance to play a leading role in the next phase of growth.
