About the Role

As a Senior Civil Estimator, you will play a pivotal role in preparing and delivering competitive tenders for major transport infrastructure projects, typically ranging from $50M to $500M+.

This is a senior front-end role requiring strong first-principles estimating capability, sound commercial judgement, and the ability to work across technical, operational and strategic bid inputs.

You will be responsible for:

• Preparing detailed first-principles estimates for complex civil infrastructure projects
• Leading the tendering process from early pricing through to submission
• Identifying project risks, opportunities and key commercial drivers
• Working closely with internal stakeholders, designers, suppliers and subcontractors
• Supporting tender strategy, review processes and pre-contract planning
• Contributing to bid presentations and internal review forums
• Mentoring and supporting other estimators across the team

About You

You are an experienced Senior Civil Estimator with strong technical capability, commercial awareness, and a proven ability to deliver competitive tenders in a high-performance environment.

You will ideally bring:

• 10+ years of civil estimating experience
• Strong expertise in first-principles estimating and cost modelling
• Advanced capability in Expert Estimator
• Experience across major roads, highways or transport infrastructure projects, ideally within TMR environments
• A background with a Tier 1 or established Tier 2 contractor
• Strong subcontractor and supplier market knowledge across QLD and/or NSW
• The confidence to contribute to senior tender discussions and stakeholder engagement
• Relevant tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or Quantity Surveying preferred

Previous site-based experience as an Engineer or Project Manager will be highly regarded, though is not essential.

The role:

Working closely with Project Managers, Engineers, and the Pre-Contracts team, your focus will be to bring structure, strategy, and discipline to every submission. You will:

• Lead first principles estimates for complex civil and structural concrete packages

• Interpret complex drawings/specifications and complete take-offs/BOQs

• Assess methodology, staging, temporary works, access, and constructability impacts

• Identify tender risks, opportunities, and value-engineering options

Project exposure:

You’ll work across a diverse pipeline, including:
Bridge structures, wind farms, tailings dams, substations, spillways, pipelines, and water storage projects, plus specialist scopes such as FRP works and complex expansions/upgrades.

Leadership pathway (important)

This role is a clear pathway into leadership (e.g., Lead Estimator / Estimating Manager / Pre-Contracts leadership). As such, you must be comfortable with client-facing work—participating in tender presentations, clarification meetings, and commercial discussions—and bring strong commercial aptitude to support win strategies and margin discipline.
